Sustainability

Sustainability is an essential part of AKK Sports Ltd’s and Secto Rally Finland’s long-term strategy.

As the event organiser, AKK Sports Ltd is committed to delivering a world-class sporting event in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, ensuring that environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspectives are integrated into every stage of the event.

Secto Rally Finland is Finland’s largest annual sporting event and one of the most prestigious rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship.

The event’s sustainable event management system has been built in line with the principles and structure of the ISO 20121 standard, with the goal of achieving official certification by 2027. The system supports the continuous improvement of the event and ensures that sustainability is embedded across all areas — from reducing the carbon footprint, promoting sustainable mobility solutions, using renewable energy, and advancing circular economy practices, to enhancing safety, accessibility, community engagement, and transparent governance.

In collaboration with partners, authorities, organisations, and local communities, Secto Rally Finland continues to strengthen its culture of sustainable event production year after year, setting an example of responsible event management within international motorsport.

Values

Our event brings joy to everyone, strengthens local communities, and supports the regional economy. At the same time, we promote sustainable mobility, renewable energy solutions, and circular economy practices. We ensure safe, accessible, and inclusive participation, enhancing the wellbeing of people. We act with transparency and integrity, complying with all laws and regulations, and engaging in active dialogue with our stakeholders.

The operations of Secto Rally Finland are guided by four key principles that steer decision-making and sustainability efforts at all levels:

Integrity:
We act openly, ethically, and transparently in all situations. All sustainability claims and reporting are based on verifiable data — there is no room for greenwashing.

Inclusion:
We value diversity and ensure a safe and accessible event environment for everyone — employees, volunteers, competitors, and spectators alike.

Stewardship:
We use natural resources responsibly, minimise environmental impacts, and ensure that the nature and communities of Central Finland benefit from the event in the long term.

Transparency and Trust:
We communicate our goals and results clearly, report progress annually, and commit to continuous improvement as part of our goal to achieve ISO 20121 certification and implement its principles in practice.

Objectives

Rally Finland’s sustainability objectives are based on the ESG framework (Environment, Social, Governance), which defines the event’s focus areas and performance indicators.

Environment

We are committed to reducing the event’s carbon footprint across all areas (Scopes 1–3), managing energy and water resources responsibly, promoting circular economy practices, and protecting the unique natural environment of Central Finland.

Our long-term goal is to achieve Net Zero emissions (Scopes 1–2) by 2040 and to reduce indirect Scope 3 emissions by at least 50% within the same timeframe.

Social Responsibility

Safety, wellbeing, and accessibility are at the heart of the event.

We support children and young people, promote equality, and strengthen the social and economic vitality of local communities. Our aim is for the rally to provide a positive experience for everyone and to leave a lasting, positive impact on the region.

Governance

We operate transparently, consistently, and in accordance with the ISO 20121 standard.

We provide training for staff, volunteers, and partners on the principles of sustainability, ensuring that ethical conduct, open communication, and stakeholder engagement guide all decision-making.

Comprehensive Commitment and Future Actions

Secto Rally Finland’s sustainability work is built on internationally recognised frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework, and the ISO 20121 Sustainable Event Management Standard.

We are committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations and to continuously improving our operations through measurable objectives, systematic monitoring, and active stakeholder collaboration.

The organisation’s full ESG Strategy (Environment, Social & Governance) will be published in the first quarter of 2026.
This strategy will consolidate Rally Finland’s sustainability goals, metrics, and development roadmap through to 2030, positioning the event as a pioneer of sustainable development within international motorsport.

Commitments and recognitions

Secto Rally Finland’s sustainability work is founded on internationally recognised standards and frameworks that guide the long-term and measurable development of the event.

Our goal is that every partnership, solution, and action strengthens the event’s environmental responsibility, social impact, and good governance.

FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme

Secto Rally Finland has achieved the highest three-star level in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme since 2017. The programme assesses the sustainability practices of motorsport events, covering areas such as energy and water management, waste handling, emissions reduction, and the training of staff and stakeholders.

The accreditation is renewed through regular audits, ensuring that our environmental performance continues to evolve in line with FIA’s requirements. Our goal is to maintain the highest possible level and to serve as an example in advancing sustainable motorsport.

Sustainable Travel Finland

Secto Rally Finland has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label by Visit Finland, recognising the event’s commitment to advancing responsible tourism and sustainable event management.

The STF programme provides companies and events with a structured framework for planning, implementing, and evaluating their sustainability actions systematically. Within this framework, Rally Finland focuses on improving environmental impact management, promoting sustainable mobility, enhancing accessibility, and ensuring responsible communication as part of its continuous improvement process.

The STF label requires verified commitment and is maintained through regular evaluations, supporting the event’s long-term sustainability work.

UN Sports for Climate Action Framework (UNFCCC)

As part of the ESG Strategy to be published in early 2026, Secto Rally Finland is preparing to join the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework, which supports sports organisations in their transition towards climate-responsible operations.

The framework is based on science-driven climate targets and emphasises greenhouse gas reduction, the pursuit of carbon neutrality, and the promotion of a climate-positive culture through sport.

Through this forthcoming commitment, Rally Finland will strengthen its position as an international actor supporting the role of sport in accelerating climate solutions and advancing sustainable development within motorsport. Preparations are being carried out in cooperation with national and international stakeholders as part of the ongoing development of the event’s sustainability programme.

ISO 20121 – Event Sustainability Management System

Secto Rally Finland is developing its event management system in accordance with the principles of the ISO 20121 standard. The standard provides a framework that supports the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of sustainable event management.

The system covers all key areas — communication, risk management, measurement, and stakeholder engagement — and forms the foundation for monitoring and reporting the event’s sustainability performance.

Our goal is to achieve official ISO 20121 certification by 2027 and to serve thereafter as an international benchmark for responsible event management.
