Portugal winners Suninen and Hussi to lead Secto LABS team at Secto Rally Finland

Fresh from their WRC2 victory at Rally Portugal, Teemu Suninen and Janni Hussi will compete for the new Secto LABS team at this summer’s Secto Rally Finland.

The goal of the Secto LABS team is to combine top-level rally competition with the development of sustainable motoring solutions. Suninen and Hussi will compete in the WRC2 category, while Riku Tahko and Markus Soininen will represent the team in WRC3. Tahko and Soininen will focus on testing new solutions in real special stage conditions and demonstrating how motorsport can contribute to more sustainable mobility.

Secto LABS is the development division of Secto Automotive, created to promote sustainable motoring through practical research and engaging communication. The team enables new technologies and solutions to be tested in the demanding conditions of rally competition.

– It’s exciting to test new technical solutions in the laboratory of gravel roads. We believe the team will provide valuable experience that benefits both our customers and everyday motorists, says Markus Vuolle, CEO of Secto Automotive.

During the rally, Secto Automotive will also unveil a cooperation project with a major international automotive industry operator. The project aims to significantly reduce the use of fossil-based lubricants in road transport, with the new solutions first introduced to Secto customers.

Sustainability work driving the future of rallying

The organiser of Secto Rally Finland, AKK Sports Oy, was awarded the title of the world’s most sustainable sports event organiser in March in the Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism competition organised by UN Tourism and FIA. The jury highlighted the event’s long-term sustainability work, where environmental responsibility, community cooperation and measurable impact have been integrated into the organisation of the event.

Secto Automotive is the title partner of Secto Rally Finland and supports the event’s sustainability and development work as part of its wider mission to promote sustainable motoring and motorsport.

– This recognition encourages us to continue developing motorsport in a more sustainable direction. Secto Automotive’s mission is to save driving by making it sustainable, and it is no exaggeration to say that we want to do the same for motorsport, says Markus Vuolle.

Secto Rally Finland has already introduced several low-emission solutions. Sustainable fuels have been used in the WRC since 2022, and the event has also promoted equality in motorsport through the FIA Girls on Track programme.

The fourth edition of the Spark the Future sustainability forum will also take place during rally week on July 31, bringing together automotive industry stakeholders to advance new sustainable solutions for both motorsport and road traffic.
