The 2025 edition of Secto Rally Finland marked another important step towards a lower-emission event. Of the event’s operational vehicle fleet, 45% were fully electric, all managed through Autofleet’s digital system. The transition to e-mobility was supported by Kempower’s mobile charging units and K-Lataus’ comprehensive charging infrastructure, ensuring smooth operations across Central Finland. Visitors, too, got a glimpse of future mobility: on Thursday, seminar guests were transported in Cefmof hydrogen-powered buses, while spectators had the opportunity to travel to the iconic Harju City Stage on the same technology.
Sustainability was further reinforced through public transport. Nearly 3,000 spectators reached the forest stages by public means, and shuttle buses were also organised to rally arenas. Food services highlighted more plant-based options than ever before.
Social sustainability was visible in many ways. The international Girls on Track programme introduced new young talents to motorsport and raised awareness of women’s role in rallying – not only during the rally weekend, but throughout the year. A growing share of Secto Rally Finland’s permanent staff and workforce are women, reflecting the commitment to broadening diversity within the sport and its stakeholders. Accessibility was also a key part of the spectator experience: each special stage offered clearly marked parking spaces and dedicated viewing areas for visitors with reduced mobility, ensuring everyone could enjoy the rally to the fullest.
Local involvement formed another cornerstone of sustainability. Much of the volunteer workforce came from the surrounding area, and services were sourced locally whenever possible – from the Rally Shop operator to catering companies. In this way, the rally generated economic benefits across Jyväskylä and Central Finland.
The development of sustainability was also advanced through the Spark the Future forum, held for the third consecutive year. The Thursday session brought together national and international stakeholders to discuss innovations, regulation, and cooperation for more sustainable motorsport and major events. Event organisers also contributed to the dialogue, with the aim of defining concrete next steps for sustainable event production during the autumn.
Many of these initiatives were made possible through partnerships. Several partners brought cutting-edge solutions and innovations to the rally, not only supporting the event’s own goals but also helping to set the direction for sustainability across the world of motorsport.
Looking ahead
Secto Rally Finland’s sustainability work is built on both small and large actions – from electric vehicles and plant-based food to local volunteers and partner-driven innovations. Together, these elements form a whole that is as diverse and vibrant as the rally itself. In the years to come, the journey continues towards an even more sustainable and inclusive rally experience – step by step, but with determination.
