The Horsepower Super Week will be held in Jyväskylä in the next year’s July-August, as the 100th anniversary of Kuninkuusravit is organized at Killeri at the end of July. After the excitement of trotting races, the roar of horsepower will move to the gravel roads of Central Finland as the Secto Rally Finland takes place in Jyväskylä once again.
The Finnish FIA World Rally Championship event, known as Secto Rally Finland, will bring the world’s best rally drivers and teams to Jyväskylä for the 73rd time next year. Secto Rally Finland fits perfectly alongside the literal horsepower theme of Kuninkuusravit.
“Jyväskylä is the home of Secto Rally Finland and a veteran in organizing major events. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to expand our collaboration even further, particularly in terms of marketing, with both the city and the Kuninkuusravit organization. We are also confident that the audience will be excited to enjoy both the events in various ways, and next year in Jyväskylä, we will witness spectacular shows both at Killeri and on the rally route,” says Tiina Lehmonen, the promoter of Secto Rally Finland.
The institution of Kuninkuusravit will celebrate a significant milestone next year, as the Kuninkuusravit will turn 100 years old. The first Kuninkuusravit race were organized in Lahti in 1924, and a hundred years later, the arena for the top equestrian event is Jyväskylä’s Killeri. The “Kunkkarit” (as Kuninkuusravit is commonly known) will take place at Killeri from July 26th to 28th, 2024.
“The Kuninkuusravit event has grown into a three-day national celebration, where we expect at least 50,000 visitors from Friday to Sunday, with a minimum economic impact of 15 million euros in the region,” states Miika Lähdeniemi, the CEO of Killeri trotting track. “The previous time Kunkkarit were organized in Jyväskylä was in 2008, and we are delighted to now host the centenary event.”
The event organizers and the City of Jyväskylä are collaborating closely. In the recently released joint marketing video for the Horsepower Super Week the superstar figures of the disciplines, Kalle Rovanperä and Santtu Raitala, are seen in action as both harness drivers of trotting horses and passengers in rally cars. “It’s fantastic to be the host city for two such significant major events during the same summer”, rejoices Emmi Palokangas, the Communications Director of the City of Jyväskylä.
