WRC expands to 15 rounds
Secto Rally Finland will take place in Jyväskylä from 29 July to 1 August 2027. The FIA has confirmed the 2027 World Rally Championship calendar, featuring a landmark 15 rounds across five continents. Among the most significant additions are the return of the United States and the United Kingdom, alongside a new Italian round based around Rome.
Secto Rally Finland retains its traditional position as one of the highlights of the WRC summer season. Taking place in Jyväskylä from 29 July to 1 August 2027, the Finnish round will be the tenth event of the season, once again following Rally Estonia on consecutive weekends.
– We are extremely pleased that Secto Rally Finland will retain its ideal slot at the turn of July and August, just before the summer school holidays come to an end. Rally Finland is one of the original events of the World Rally Championship, and we have been part of its history since the championship was established. It is exciting to see the WRC evolve and expand into new markets, while continuing to play our own strong role as one of the championship’s most traditional and iconic events,” says Clerk of the Course Kai Tarkiainen.
The 2027 WRC calendar introduces several significant changes. The championship expands to 15 rounds, with both the United States and the United Kingdom returning after lengthy absences. The WRC will visit the United States for the first time since 1988, with Rally US scheduled for late August, marking one of the most anticipated additions to the calendar.
The United Kingdom returns to the championship for the first time since 2019. Rally Scotland, taking place from late September to early October, will be based in Aberdeen and bring WRC action back to Scotland’s forest roads.
Another major addition is Rally d’Italia in July, bringing the championship to Rome and the surrounding asphalt roads of the Lazio region. The event builds on its established presence in the FIA European Rally Championship.
A new technical era begins
The 2027 season also marks the beginning of a new era for the World Rally Championship with the introduction of the WRC27 technical regulations. Designed to reduce costs and lower barriers to entry, the new regulations aim to attract additional manufacturers and independent constructors to the championship.
The season will begin with the traditional Rallye Monte-Carlo in January, followed by Sweden and Kenya before a series of European asphalt events. The summer schedule includes Greece, Italy, Estonia and Finland, while the autumn takes the championship to the United States, Scotland and South America before the season finale in Saudi Arabia in late November.
WRC Promoter CEO Éric Boullier sees the expanded calendar as an important step in the championship’s international development. The combination of new markets, established rally destinations and technical changes is intended to strengthen the WRC’s appeal to fans, manufacturers and commercial partners alike.
