Rovanperä satisfied with Italy outcome

If he couldn’t win Rally Italia Sardegna, extending his advantage at the top of the table was the next best thing for Kalle Rovanperä.

Toyota’s Finn added eight points to his championship lead at round six – he now heads to Safari Rally Kenya later this month with a 25-point advantage over Thierry Neuville, the winner on the Italian island.

“The plan when we came to Italy was to be fast where we could be fast,” he said. “Running first on the road, I didn’t really expect too much – so in some ways I was quite surprised to be on the podium.

“For me, this rally is quite slow, quite technical and twisty with not so much fast sections – this is not really the way for the Finns! In the end the weather helped us a little bit, but we still lost quite a lot on the first run through the long stage on Friday.
